5 Easy Ways To Prevent Kidney Stones

in Lifestyle

Kidneys play an important role in filtering the blood and cleaning the body. If they are affected, they can not work smoothly, leading to artery aging and kidney stones.

Following are some simple tips to keep your kidneys work well and prevent risk of nephrolithiasis.

Drink water

Dehydration can increase the risk of kidney-related problems by 20 percent. The more water you drink, the better health you have. You should have water bottles in your car, backpacks, on your working desk and in your meals.

Enjoy milk and yogurt

Two cups of yogurt and one glass of milk can keep your blood pressure stabilized. Calcium in yogurt can lower the risk of hypertension by 25 percent.

Lower salt intake

Eating a high-sodium diet increases the risk of kidney stones. On the other hand, salt makes calcium absorbed much more in the kidneys than in the bones, causing osteoporosis and nephrolithiasis. So you should consume more low-sodium foods or vegetables and fruits.

Increase amounts of minerals

Some minerals, especially potassium and magnesium, can reduce the risk of kidney stones. High-potassium foods include bananas, potatoes, peas, etc. Meanwhile, natural sources of magnesium consist of almonds and oats.

Consume lemonade

Drinking at least one glass of lemonade every day helps reduce the risk of nephrolithiasis. Citric acids in the lemon prevent minerals and other elements in urine from sticking together and forming kidney stones.
