Nearly all of us are having to recycle now. Either as a personal choice or because we are instructed to by our local authorities many of us have to trawl through our waste and separate the different items for recycling.
We can of course use recycling bins around the home. These allow us to separate the waste into either separate bins or compartments making the whole process easier – but recycling can still be a chore, so is there an alternative?
Well there are several methods of reducing waste without recycling it or throwing it into the waste bin:
Composting
For food, garden and other organic waste composting is by far the best method for getting rid of, and recycling this material. Composting turns all that waste into nutritional plant food that will allow your vegetables, flowers and shrubs to really bloom, as well as keeping you garden and soil healthy.
Composting waste is easy to do as all you really need is a composter and a corner of the garden – although there are kitchen composters available that do the job on a smaller scale.
Log makers
Another way of getting rid of waste is by using a log maker.
These allow you to get rid of all that unwanted paper and card, such as junk mail, old newspapers and other items, and lets you turn it into burnable logs for the fire or wood burning stove. Log makers not only get rid of your recycling but provide free fuel for the fire.Repurposing
Another way of getting rid of recyclable material is to find another use for it.
Often the items we throw away, such as packaging can be reused for other items. Often we can find completely different uses for items than they were originally intended for.
