Top 5 Worst Foods For Kids To Eat

in Lifestyle

While you should feed your children with foods that are high in fiber, calcium, iron, vitamins, minerals, and low in fat, there are still high-calorie, high-fat foods that are unhealthy for your kids. Following are top 5 worst foods that your kids should avoid.

1. Fast foods

Fast foods are among worst foods for your kids because they are high in fat, sodium and sugar. According to the American Heart Association, kids who eat out at restaurants more than four times per week have higher blood pressure, lower HDL levels, and higher intake of starch, sugar, sodium, fat, and cholesterol than those who eat at home. What’s more, fast foods don’t contain adequate amounts of protein and good carbohydrates but pack with large amounts of fat, which can lead to obesity. They also contribute to heart disease by raising blood cholesterol levels and cause high blood pressure or hypertension. Type 2 diabetes and arthritis are also other attendant health problems of eating fast foods.

2. Ice cream

Ice cream is a dessert that kids are very fond of because it is tasty. However, it contains a large amount of calories, which can lead your angels to put on weight if they eat on a regular basis. Ice cream is also high in saturated fat, a big problem because high-fat foods can leave children without the energy they need to play outside. Especially, eating ice cream causes painful short-term headaches, often termed brain freeze colloquially.

3. Soda, sports drinks and sweetened fruit juices

Soda and sweetened fruit juices will be a quick way to get your kids a trip to the dentist because it is high in sugar content and acid that destroys dental enamel. These drinks are also filled with calories that are likely to make them grow fatter and not taller. Overweight children are more likely to suffer from bone, joint or muscle pain later in life. Like soda, sports drinks have high amounts of sugar, which can increases a child's risk for obesity by as much as 60%.

4. Sugary cereals

You kids love the sugar breakfast cereal because it is colorful and tasty. In fact, most sugary cereals are made from refined grains that have been stripped of their fiber and nutrients. They are filled with empty calories and contain little nutrition while having sugar, artificial flavors and coloring.

5. Hot dogs

Hot dogs are high in fat and sodium, a bad combo for kids. The average dog has 464 calories with 32 percent of the daily fat and 44 percent of the recommended daily sodium. While saturated fat sabotages both your children’s hearts and waistlines, sodium zaps water from their bodies and increases their chances of dehydrating. Besides, hot dogs are loaded with nitrites, which are linked to an increased cancer risk.
